Armenia is a small country in Eastern Europe sharing a border with Turkey to the west, Georgia to the north, Iran to the south and Azerbaijan to the east. Armenia was once part of the former Soviet Union. Although a landlocked country, Armenia has Lake Sevan (Sevana Lich) which is the largest lake in the Lesser Caucasus mountain range. Armenia was the first country to adopt Christianity as the state religion, way back in AD301. Today there are many archaeological sites and numerous monasteries waiting to be explored. The capital of Armenia, Yerevan, is also one of the oldest cities in the world, established over 2800 years ago, during the time of ancient Babylon. Some places in Armenia are still closed to tourists, including the borders with Azerbaijan and Turkey, as well as the disputed regions of Nagorno Karabakh.
