Atlanta History Center is an organisation created to preserve and celebrate the history of Atlanta. It was founded in 1926 as the Atlanta Historical Society. In 1990 the Atlanta Historical Society changed its name to Atlanta History Center. The center makes it easy for visitors to understand and appreciate history through its many history programs, set at its museums, heritage buildings and historic gardens. Among the historic houses within the Atlanta History Center are Swan House, Tullie Smith Farm and Margaret Mitchell House. Swan House is one of the most famous historic houses in Atlanta built in 1928 for the family of Edward H. Inman. It provides a glimpse into the lifestyle of the wealthy in 1920's Atlanta.

Tullie Smith Farm is a plantation house from the 1840's belonging to the family of Robert Smith. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Tullie Smith Farm gives visitors a chance to see life in the 19th century. Interpretations are provided by guides in period costumes.

Margaret Mitchel House is the home of the author of Gone with the Wind. I will describe it on a separate page.
