Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) is one of the biggest airports in the United States. With 88 million passengers using it per year, it is the busiest airport by passenger traffic in the world. There were 970,235 flights in 2008, making it also the busiest airport by number of flights. The airport is located just seven miles (11 km) from downtown Atlanta.

Atlanta International Airport is the hub for Delta Air Lines, AirTran Airways and Atlantic Southeast Airlines. It is the world's largest airline hub. Of the passenger traffic, 56% is contributed by Delta Air Lines.

Atlanta International Airport has 151 domestic and 28 international gates. The majority of its passengers are domestic travelers on transit. As an international airport, it only ranks 7th place in the United States as an international gateway.
