The Basilica of St George is the oldest church building within Prague Castle. It was founded by Vratislaus I of Bohemia in 920. It was then enlarged in 973 with The addition of the Benedictine St. George's Convent in 973 increased its size.
The Basilica was rebuilt following a big fire in 1142. The Baroque facade of the basilica dates from the late 17th century. A gothic style chapel is dedicated to Ludmila of Bohemia. The saint was buried there, along with Vratislav and Boleslaus II of Bohemia.
Today the Basilica is used as a concert hall.
