Castle Clinton is a fort surrounded by Battery Park, in Manhattan, New York City. It is a circular sandstone fort completed in 1811. It was built after the Americans realised they needed a fort to defend the southern tip of Manhattan. This was after they had demolished Fort Amsterdam that had stood a short distance away.

. It is intended to complement Castle Williams on Governors Island. It was called West Battery while Castle Williams was called East Battery. Castle Clinton was built as tension mounted with the British forces that led to the War of 1812. But it never saw any action in that or any war.

Castle Clinton was named after Dewitt Clinton, the mayor of New York City in 1815. It has taken on many other names, depending on what it was used for, during its long history, including Castle Garden and Emigrant Landing Depot. It was designated a national monument on 12 August, 1946. The Castle Clinton National Monument was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on 15 October, 1966.
