Djibouti is a tiny country in East Africa. It is bordered by Eritrea to the north, Ethiopia to the west and south, and Somalia to the southeast. The Gulf of Aden lies to the east. Located close to the Middle East, Djibouti has a climate similar to it, with hot and arid summers.

    When to visit Djibouti

    The best time to visit Djibouti is during the winter months, from November to mid-April. The rest of the year, the country is simply too hot to handle.

    What to wear in Djibouti

    Lightweight clothes are best for Djibouti. Protect yourself with sunglasses and sunblock.

    Getting into Djibouti

    Djibouti-Ambouli International Airport (JIB), located 5km from the city, is the international gateway to Djibouti. The national carrier, Daallo Airlines, has flight so London and Paris as well as destinations in Africa and the Middle East.

    All nationals except those of France require a visa to enter Djibouti.

    The currency used in Djibouti is the Djibouti Franc, Djf. Banknotes are in denominations of Djf 500, 1000, 2000, 5000 and 10000 while coins in denominations of Djf 10, 20, 50, 100 and 500. Banking hours are from 7:15am to 11:45am Saturdays to Thursdays.
