Ebenezer Baptist Church is a baptist church in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. This is the church were Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. and his father Martin Luther King, Sr. pastored. The Ebenezer Baptist Church was founded in 1886 by Reverend John A. Parker, who was born into slavery. Rev. Parker became the first pastor of the church. The original building of the Ebenezer Baptist Church was a box-like structure on Airline Street. When Rev. Adam Daniel Williams succeeded Rev. Parker, he rapidly grew the church membership. He also built a church building at McGruder Street. Today, that church is known as the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. Martin Luther King Jr. joined his father as co-pastor of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in 1960. Through his ministry, the church became internationally recognised. His brother Rev. Alfred Daniel Williams King founded the Ebenezer Children's Chapel in 1969. Reverend Martin Luther King Sr retired in 1975 after serving for 44 years, and is succeeded by Rev. Dr. Joseph Lawrence Roberts Jr. Today the Ebeneze Baptist Church is part of the Martin Luther King Jr National Historic Site.
