Igreja da Sé, or Macau Cathedral, was built over the 16th century foundation of a previous religious institution, the Church of Our Lady of Hope of St Lazarus, the mother church of the Macau diocese. The first stone cathedral was consecrated in 1850. However, it was destroyed by a typhoon.

The present Igreja da Sé dates back to 1937. It has two towers on its sides and massive doors painted green. Inside, visitors can admire its beautiful stained glass windows.
