Margaret Mitchell House & Museum is the home of author Margaret Mitchell, who penned the famous novel Gone with the Wind. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and operated by the Atlanta History Center.

Margaret Mitchell's house was built in 1899 by Cornelius J. Sheehan. Originally a single-family home, it was converted into a ten-unit apartment building in 1919. Margaret Mitchell and her husband John Marsh lived at Apartment No. 1 in 1925. At that time, it was known as the Crescent Apartments.

Today Mitchell's apartment is faithfully preserved with its original architectural features. The famolus leaded glass window where Mitchell sat, looking out as she wrote her book is retained.

The house was used as an apartment until 1978, when it was abandoned. Then a group of conservationists banded together to save it. They restored the house and renamed it the Margaret Mitchell House. To prevent the house from demolition, Mayor Andrew Young designated it a city landmark in 1989.

Margaret Mitchell House suffered damage from fire in 1994. The German automotive giant Daimler Benz funded the purchase of the property. In 1996 the house once again was struck by fire, just 40 days before the completion of restoration work, requiring restoration to begin anew.

Margaret Mitchell House finally opened to the public on 17 May, 1997, and is today one of the treasured heritage buildings in Atlanta.
