Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site is an ensemble of buildings related to the life and childhood of Martin Luther King, Jr. It is roughly bounded by Irwin, Randolph, Edgewood, Jackson and Auburn Avenues, in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. The Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site includes King's boyhood home on Auburn Avenue, the original Ebenezer Baptist Church, where he and his father pastored, his birthplace, his tomb, and other structures, over an area of 35 acres. There is also a Visitor Center with a museum chronicling the American civil rights movement. There is a gift shop and an exhibit on the desegregation of Atlanta Fire Department. They are housed in a former firehouse built in 1894. Also part of the National Historic Site is the "I Have A Dream" Rose Garden and the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi. Visiting the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic SiteThe National Historic Site is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm daily from mid August through mid June, and from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm daily from mid June through mid August. Admission and parking are free. |
