New York Earth Room is an experimental art institution located at 141 Wooster Street, in SoHo, Manhattan, New York City. It is one of the three Earth Rooms created by conceptual artist Walter De Maria, but is so far the only one still standing.
The sculpture - if you can call it that - of Earth Room is a 3,600-square-foot room piled to a depth of 22 inches with 280,000 lbs of earth. It is called an "interior earth sculpture", and was commissioned by the Dia Art Foundation in 1977.
How to reach the New York Earth Room
Before you embark, I have to comment that the destination looks rather unpromising to me. Take the R or W train to Prince Street subway station. Walk west on Prince Street until intersection with Wooster Street. Turn north on Wooster Street and walk a distance. The New York Earth Room at on your left at 141 Wooster Street.
