Palais de Chaillot is a Neo-Classical complex of buildings erected for the 1937 Paris Exhibition. It was designed by Léon Azéma, Louis-Auguste Boileau and Jacques Carlu. It is located at a site called Trocadéro, in the 16th Arrondissement, which is across the River Seine from the Eiffel Tower. To make way for Palais de Chaillot, the old Palais du Trocadéro, which was built for the 1878 World's Fair, had to be demolished.

Palais de Chaillot was named after Chaillot, the hill on which it stands. The Palais has two curved colonnaded wings that form an arc, each culminating in a vast pavillion. The pavilion on the left, as viewed from Place du Trocadéro, houses the Théâtre National de Chaillot, while the pavilion on the right houses the Musée de la Marine and Musé de l'Homme.

In between the two pavilions are an open space where one can look across the Seine at Eiffel Tower. Along the line of view are the Trocadéro Fountains, and on either sides are formal gardens called Jardins du Trocadéro.

How to reach Palais de Chaillot

Take the Métro to the Trocadéro subway station.
