Passerelle des Arts is a footbridge across the Seine in Paris. It connects the Institut de France on the Left Bank to the central square of the Palais du Louvre, on the Right Bank. The bridge got its name from the Palais du Louvre, which was called Palais des Arts under the First Empire (1804-1814).

The first bridge on the site of Passerelle des Arts was built in 1804. It was the first metal bridge in Paris. By the mid 1970's the bridge was always in rather bad shape, having suffered bombardments in the two world wars and numerous collisions by boats. It was replaced with an identical bridge completed in 1984 - identical except for the number of arches, which were reduced from the original nine to the present seven. It was inaugurated on 27 June, 1984, by Jacques Chiract, who was then the Mayor of Paris.

How to reach Passerelle des Arts
