Savoy Hotel is one of the most luxurious hotels in the world. It is located on the Strand, in the City of Westminster. It was built by Richard D'Oyly Carte, who also owned the adjacent Savoy Theatre. The Savoy Hotel opened in 1889. It derived its name from the Savoy Palace which once occupied the site. The first manager of the Savoy is Cesar Ritz, who later founded The Ritz Hotel.

In 2005, the Savoy was purchased by the Fairmont Hotels and Resorts of Canada. In May 2007, its new owners annunced that the Savoy will be closed in its entirety for 16 months for a refitting at a cost of $200 million. Bookings will end by December 2007 and the projected reopening is some time in 2009.
