Tom Quad, or Tom Quadrangle, is the name of the college quadrangle in Oxford. Formally known as the Great Quadrangle, Tom Quad measures 264 feet by 261 feet. It was planned by Cardinal Wolsey, who had wanted it to be a cloister. The supports erected for the cloister could still be seen at short intervals around the quadrangle. Wolsey never lived to complete the project, so it was finished when John Fell was Dean.
Dominating Tom Quad is Tom Tower, designed by Sir Christopher Wren. On the east side of Tom Quad is the entrance to Christ Church Cathedral, while on the southeast corner is the entrance to the college dining hall. The north side contains the homes of the canons of Christ Church while much of the east side is the Deanery, residence of the college dean.
There is an ornamental pond at the centre of Tom Quad, with the statue of Mercury.
